2019 Renault Stepway Sanderos Review

The mini MPV crossover segment is growing in Kenya with brands like Volkswagen having begun the assembly of the Vivo Maxx.

Most crossover cars in Kenya are taking into consideration fuel efficiency and the cost. 2019 Renault Sandero Stepway looks like a more rugged version of the Sanderos.

More so, the Renault Stepway is not only a fuel efficient car but it also has style and elegance. Each seat is fitted with an armrest to offer maximum comfort. There are 12 volts ports at the rear seats where one can charge their electronic devices if the need arises.

Visually, the Renault Stepway Plus is differentiated from lesser Sandero derivatives by the addition of gloss black side mirrors and its 16-inch 2-tone alloy wheels.

Apart from the outward look, it is easy to confuse the car with the Duster Darcia. This is due to its raised height. Read more on Renault Sanderos Stepway features.

Design

The Sandero Stepway is based on the Renault alliance CMF (Common Manufacturing Facilities) platform and shares its underpinnings with the Logan and Duster.

It wears the new Renault design theme with the trapezoidal headlamps merging perfectly with the slated grill at the front. The wheel arcs are lined with cosmetic fittings to give it an athletic stance. At the back, an infused boot lid spoiler enhances the athletic look.

Interior

Renault Stepway is surprisingly spacious inside. The dashboard is well designed with a simple and logical layout. The centre console houses the radio, climate control and satellite navigation system.

Rear passengers are afforded ample headroom and enough legroom to render the Renault a small family car. With the rear seatback in its upright position, luggage space is commendable, with substantial length and depth to the loading area.

Performance

The Sandero Stepway is powered by a 66Kw/135Nm 1.2-litre turbo petrol unit paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This not only allows the full exploration of the peppy engine but also allows for an average fuel consumption figure of 6.5L/100 kilometres.

Handling

On the road, the Sandero is pleasant to drive too. The front Macpherson strut suspension soaks up moderate road imperfections. This is assisted by the fact that the 15-inch alloys are wrapped in thick rubber.

Parking in tight spots isn’t a problem as the reverse-view camera and rear parking sensors, allied with the light steering make it easy.

In terms of safety, the Renault Sandero packs a raft of safety gadgets that are only seen on far more expensive vehicles. For active safety, it features 4 airbags, ABS (Anti-locking Brake System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), hill-start assist and electronic stability control.

Verdict

If you are looking for a stylish yet affordable crossover, the 2019 Renault  Sandero surely ticks all the boxes.

For only Ksh. 2.5 million you can drive away with this beauty, backed up with a 3 year/ 100,000-kilometer warranty.
